Part Cs: Annual Kayaking Expedition (AKE)

INTRODUCTION

1. HQ NCC (Sea) will be conducting the 38th Annual Kayaking Expedition (AKE) from 10 June to 13 June 2012.

2. Participants are required to attend all trainings/selections once their names are registered on the nominal roll. The rations for participants are indented for these trainings. As such, any registered participants who do not attend training would be required to pay for the ration not consumed.

3. The participants would be required to have a proper haircut and correct hair colour for ALL trainings & selections, otherwise, they would not be allowed for the training.

4. Participants must adhere to all regulations for training safety, to be equipped with the proper attire and bring the required items for training. Those participants who failure to comply will not be allowed to continue the training.

CRITERIA

5. In view of the safety requirements for sea expedition, all participants must meet the following criteria:

a. No medical history
b. Maximum weight limit of 80 kg
c. Attain 1 Star Kayaking Award or better
d. Able to swim

SELECTION

6. All participants are required to complete and pass 2 preparatory trainings/selections and the mini-expedition.

7. Absentees (without valid reasons/medical certification) and late for training will be deemed to have withdrawn from the AKE 2012. Appeals for re-entry to AKE 2012 trainings will not be entertained.

SCHEDULE FOR TRAININGS

8. The trainings for AKE 2012 include preparatory trainings/selections, a mini-expedition and conclude with the AKE.

9. The First Preparatory Training: 7 Mar 2012, Wed.

10. The Second Preparatory Training: 24 Mar 2012, Sat

11. Mini AKE: 6-8 April 2012. Cadets who fulfil the requirements of the MKE will advance to the final AKE.

12. AKE: 10-13 June 2012

Part Cs must ensure you are able to commit on all the above-mentioned dates, before you sign up for AKE 2012

HQ NCC will not be responsible for any losses or damages to personal belongings and valuables.

2. All participants will be checked for the compulsory items when they report at the centre.

3. All cadets are not allowed to bring image capturing devices(handphones) as these are contraband items prohibited from SAF camps/NCC Camp.

Part C: Outward Bound (Sabah) 3-22 Dec 2011

The Adventure Challenge Course conducted at Outward Bound (Sabah) is specially coordinated for selected Part C cadets (Boys and Girls) who are Singapore Citizens as part of the adventure training provided to the cadets. It is also part of the incentive programme to reward deserving cadets, who have been outstanding in training.

The Adventure Challenge Course will be conducted at Outward Bound (Sabah). The disembarkation will be from Changi International Airport, terminal 2. Flight details will be provided by OBS during the Pre- Course briefing.

The course fee is $1,100.00. All participating cadets (only Singapore Citizens) will only pay $100.00 each for the course. District Commanders/CSOs are to collect the course fees by cheque made payable to ‘Outward Bound Singapore’.

After discussing with the NCC Teacher Officers, your various subject and form teachers and your seniors, the Unit has selected the following cadets to go for Senior Land Spec Course:

INTRODUCTION
1. HQ NCC will be conducting the Senior Specialist Course from 5th - 7th Sep 11. The course duration is two and a half days, residential camp.

AIM
2. The aim of this course is to allow the Cadets to enhance their instructional abilities in organizing; conducting and executing some form of parades and ceremonies at their School Units.

3. Upon completion, the Cadets will be appointed as Unit Drill Instructors in their respective school units where they will be able to impart the knowledge and skills acquired during the course to their juniors and subordinates.

DURATION / LOCATION
4. The course will commence on 5 Sep, 1330 hr to 7th Sep 11, 1700 hr.

5. It will be held at NCC Campus, Amoy Quee Camp.

REPORTING

6. Cadets are to report for in processing by 1330 hr at HQ NCC, Multi Purpose Hall on 5 Sep 11.

7. All Cadets are to report in their Smart No. 4 uniform (with badges)

8. All male Cadets are reminded to have a short and neat haircut, failing which they will not be permitted to join the course. Barbers will be present to cut the hair of male Cadets with long hair at a cost of $4.00. Female cadets are reminded to bring along their hairnet.

9. No off-days or time off would be granted during the course, unless on emergency and compassionate grounds.

INTRODUCTION
1. HQ NCC will be conducting the Non Residential 3 Day Part C Cadet Specialist Course.

2. This administrative instructions spell out the administrative and logistics matters in relation to the smooth running of the Course.

AIM
3. The aim of this Course is to allow cadets to enhance their instructional abilities in organising, conducting and executing Individual Field Craft, Technical Handling of Weapons and Physical Fitness to attain the ARMY-NCC Badge so as to contribute what they have learned and experience to the school units.

4. Upon completion, Part C Cadets will also be appointed as the Auxiliary Instructors in their school units where they will be able to impart their knowledge acquired during the course to their juniors.

LOCATION/ REPORTING / DEPARTURE TIME
5. The Part C cadets will report at 0730 hrs as follow:

a. Day 1 & 2 – To Multi purpose Hall at NCC Campus.

b. Day 3 – To Singapore Discovery Centre Carpark which is walking distance from Joo Koon MRT station.

The course is expected to end at approximately 1800 hrs on each day.

TURNOUT & DISCIPLINE

6. All Teacher Officers, Cadet Officers and Cadets must report in their No.4 uniform with beret. A T-Shirt and towel are to be brought along for the physical training.

7. Course participants are reminded not to bring along valuables. HQ NCC will not be responsible for any loss or theft. Course participants are also discouraged from bringing any foodstuff for their own consumption.

8. All male Cadet Officers and Cadets are reminded to spot a neat haircut, failing which they will not be permitted into NCC Campus. Female Cadet Officers and Cadets are to bring along their black hairnets.

9. Late-comers without a valid excuse will not be entertained after 0800 hrs on each day of the course. Day-off will not be granted to any course participant except on compassionate ground.

1. 21 Cadets: Cadet Specialist Course (Land Module) for sea cadets has now been changed to 21 June to 23 June. The Land Module revision booklet will be given to you and it is VITAL that you study for it as your rank is DEPENDENT on your performance (test, exam, practical) during Land Spec Course.

a. General Specialist Knowledge (GSK) GSK lessons are to be conducted by the individual school units before the start of the Specialist Course. The test on GSK will be conducted during the Specialist Course. Cadets are to bring along their own writing materials.

b. Foot Drill Mutual. Mutuals are to be conducted by the individual school units before the start of the Specialist Course. Cadets attending the course must complete their mutual on Foot Drill.

c. IFC Mutual. Mutuals are to be conducted by the individual school units before the start of the Specialist Course. Cadets attending the course must complete their mutual on IFC.

2. ALL Part Cs (including Phase II (Sep) for Land Specialist Course): As part of the preparation for Specialist Course (Land Module), HQ NCC will be holding a half-day revision activity for our sea cadets. This revision is vital for the performance of the cadets and is thus compulsory.

Please bring a copy of your MC OR Parent Letter for as a proof of absence, during friday's training 25/3/2011 and submit to the Admin Specialist when he approaches your platoon.

If you are unable to reproduce the proof:

Please prepare an explanation of which should consist of what proof did you submit, to whom did you submit it to and when did you submit the proof. This will be handled on a case-by-case basis. You may submit a parent's letter as well, but will be subjected to review.

Parent Letters must contain the signature and contact number of the cadet's parent and must be dated.
If you do not take any action by Friday, 25/3 you will be deemed AWOL from that certain training.
Please be reminded you need >75% attendance to receive any CCA points for that year. Attendance is the most basic commitment you can give.

Otherwise, if you have any other problems or questions, I will checking with each platoon on Friday.

OBJECTIVES

The main objectives of Part A Interactive Battlefield Trail are as follows:

a. Understand the concept of manoeuvre warfare, tactical considerations for attack and defence, and need to be committed to the defence of Singapore.

b. Understand the reasons why British failed to defend Singapore.

c. Understand how the Japanese had successfully employed Joint and Combined Arms concepts to cause the rapid collapse of Fortress Singapore.

Cadets would undergo a ½ day amazing race format trail using mobile technology and GPS tracking system.

Upon completion of the fieldtrail, all cadets are eligible to collect their Total Defence Badge (Bronze).

Details on 2nd round AKE Selection:

Attire: PT attire (long sleeve schoo/NCC shirt is advisable)

There will only be one session conducted for the cadets and the expedition will start from SSTC to Causeway and back. If the weather holds fine, everything should end before 1200hrs and you will be dismissed from SSTC.

Should there be inclement weather in the morning, the expedition will start at a later time. As such, please make this whole saturday available till evening time after 1730hrs.

No lunch will be catered as well. They will be dismissed before 1200hrs after the expedition.

Objectives of training: Preparation for Change of Command parade on Friday, training will be slightly longer due to this.

Notes: Part A will be collecting their uniforms, including boots etc. during this training. Part As, please ensure that you bring along a large enough bag, (I suggest recyclable cloth bags) for 4 pieces of clothing and two shoeboxes (one LARGE and another regular shoebox) so that you can bring home your things easily.

For Part As who are not attending training, your uniform will be held by the Logistics Specialist until further instructions. (you may need to collect it on thursday)

1 Star Kayaking for Part A Cadets *Latest Updates (11/3/11)

The One Star Kayaking Course will be held at Kallang Water Sports Centre on 17 Mar (Thu) and 18 Mar (Fri). The course is from 8 am to 5 pm.

Part A cadets are expected to reach Kallang MRT Station by 8 am on 17 Mar (Thu)

Cadets are to wait at the entrance to the MRT Station (facing the main road). The platoon sergeants (Randal, Yuk Chi and Ian) will be bringing the cadets to the venue (About 10 mins walk).

Things to Bring for Cadets:

1. PT Kit (marist singlet and PE Shorts)

2. Booties or Sport Shoes (No slippers or sandals will be allowed)

3. Cash (To buy lunch)

4. A dry set of clothing

5. Shower equipment (Towel and shower foam)

6. Water Bottle (preferably more than one litre)

COMPULSORY Briefing for selected Part Cs

A briefing will be conducted for Specialist Course (IMOS Modeule) March 2011's trainees on Monday 28 February 2011 at 1530 hours at NCC THEATARE, Amoy Quee Camp . Attendance is compulsory.

Cadets that do not attend the briefing will not be allowed to attend the course.
